"Five-State" Exhibit (Montana artists)

Sunday, April 6, 2014 - 12:00am to Friday, April 25, 2014 - 12:00pm

The Traveling Collection from the 35th Juried “Five-State” Exhibit may be viewed at The Gallery, located at 109 N. Merrill Ave. in Glendive, Mont. beginning with an opening reception on April 6 from 1-2:30 p.m. The exhibit will remain through April 25.

The Traveling Collection features 21 works representative of the 35th Annual Five-State Juried Exhibit shown earlier this year at the WaterWorks Gallery in Miles City. The Annual Juried Exhibit features works from professional and amateur artists from across Montana and adjoining states. Entries had to be original and completed within the last two years. This year’s show celebrates paper and the multitude of subjects that artists interpret as worthy of celebration on and of paper. The exhibit is a recording of local, regional and national artists whose time, skill and patience have been poured onto the surface of a piece of paper and highlights a wide variety of artistic styles and mediums.

Artist Robert Tompkins, a frequent exhibitor at the WaterWorks Art Museum, judged this year’s Juried Show. He is a professional artist with a varied career contributing to an appreciation of design, color and the love of nature. Tompkins has been painting professionally over the past 20 years and is represented at several galleries in Montana as well as many one-man shows. In 2001, he took first place in the Greater Yellowstone National Juried Exhibition. Tompkins and his wife Gayle, own and operate the Purple Sage Gallery in Billings, Mont. He is a member of the Montana Professional Artists Association and the Oil Painters of Montana group.

Stockman Bank of Miles City and the William and Lorene Nefsy Foundation co-sponsor the Annual Juried Exhibit and the Traveling Collection tour with additional support from the Montana Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Montana Cultural Trust.

The following artists have works accepted in the 2014 Traveling Collection:
