Dirt bike enthusiasts no longer have to go out of town to practice jumps or race. A new motocross track has opened at the Dawson County fairgrounds thanks to the dedication of local riders and business sponsors.
“A few of us motocross racers wanted to help provide a place for local dirt bike enthusiasts to have a track to ride on as well as a place for kids entering the sport to have a place to ride and practice,” local rider Cole Mort said.
Along with Mort, local riders Mike Goodale, Kayli Mort, Michael Lynn, Jake Scheetz, Caleb and Camille Schwindt, Lexi and Jarrod Dyekman and Dylan Dowson helped make the motocross track a reality.
“We just wanted to provide another activity for the people of Glendive and provide a positive, fun environment for kids and families looking to enjoy the sport of motocross,” Mort added.
The track is built to suit riders of all ages and skill levels and will be groomed when needed. When the water system is completed it will be watered for prime riding conditions and for dust control.
“The track is in the early stages of becoming a great thing for the community and couldn’t have happened without the help of the Dawson County Fair Board for being so open and helpful,” Mort said.
Sponsors who contribued to the track project include Fisher Sand and Gravel, American Ford, Dickies BBQ, Mort Distributing, Nabors Well Service, Mitchell’s Oil Field Service, Milne Implement, Gibbs Equipment and Graphics, Superior Water and Makoshika Promotions.
The track is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The track will also be closed when the fairgrounds are utilized for other events. You must be a member of DCMX to use the track, and for membership information, riders are encouraged to visit the Dawson County Motocross Facebook page or contact Kayli Mort at 406-860-9231.
