WGFD provides valuable community service with pride

Dear editor,

I’m writing this letter to share with the public what the West Glendive Fire Department is about.  We currently have 20 volunteers; firefighters who are ready to respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  You may know many of these individuals as they may also be out working their regular jobs amongst you.  Our firemen range from less than 1 year of experience to over 40 years, these folks take pride in their department.  They are often asked to go above and beyond.  We are very fortunate to have to support of the Richey Fire Department and a number of satellite trucks manned by locals who are also key in our county coverage.

We are responsible for the West Glendive Fire District and also have a contract to provide fire protection in Dawson County. We respond to fires, vehicle accidents and any other incidents that we can assist in.  Our department is also a good neighbor to our surrounding counties, available for mutual aid as needed, and we rely on those county departments if we are falling short here at home.

In 2017, the West Glendive Fire Department responded to 148 total calls totaling over 2000 hours. Those calls include the following incidents in West Glendive and Dawson County:

West Glendive Calls (38)
Motor Vehicle Accidents (7)
Fires (24)
Other Emergency Calls (7)

Dawson County Calls (110)
Motor Vehicle Accidents (42)
Fires (51)
Other Emergency Calls (17)

These firefighters also combined with over 1340 hours of training in 2017.

We do this job for our community and its citizens.  It is our honor to serve you. If anybody would like to learn more, please stop by the West Glendive Fire Department the first Wednesday of any month as that is our normal training night.

Thank you

Chief Richie Crisafulli
