DCHS tennis needs Coach Lindgren back

Dear editor,

Although I do not know the circumstances that led to the dismissal of Rich Lindgren as coach of DCHS tennis team, I do know that the school board should do everything possible to reinstate him. Any new coach should be well aware that Glendive is scheduled to host the state tourney in May. This is a huge responsibility with hundreds of details, arranging, organizing and scheduling of matches. Truly not a job for just anyone.

Rich is a very dedicated and devoted teacher/coach. Also, he’s knowledgeable in all aspects of the game of tennis. The large turn outs for tennis season attest to the great rapport that he shares with the students. Since beginning his coaching in 1970, his teams have earned numerous state titles in both individual and team events. In 1995 and 2002 he was named National Coach of the Year.

He was most instrumental in the construction of Glendive’s ten courts which are some of the finest in the state. He also is the unofficial “caretaker” of the courts, volunteering countless hours to their upkeep.
