James Kreg Lorenz

James Kreg Lorenz

Funeral service for James Kreg Lorenz, 50 of Sidney, is 11 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Ebenezer Congregational Church in Sidney with Pastor David Meehan officiating. Cremation will follow the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ROI, Richland Opportunities Inc.  Remembrances, pictures and condolences may be shared with the family at www.fulkersons.com.

James Kreg Lorenz was born on November 23, 1963 in Sidney to parents Harold and Audrey (Wallace) Lorenz. James was born with Down Syndrome, and at the age of 5 went to live at the School for the Handicapped in Boulder. He lived there for 13 months, and then moved back home. At the age of 9 his parents enrolled him at Eastmont Training Center in Glendive for 5 days a week, and he would ride a bus home on weekends. At the age of 20, James moved to Miles City and lived in a group home and worked at Eastern Montana Industries for approximately 5 years. He moved back to Sidney and lived at the Svarre Group Home and was employed at ROI for 25 years until his death.

James extended family consisted of many loving friends, co-workers, and caregivers who enriched and blessed his life with much love. James’ favorite color was red and he enjoyed wearing many red shirts. He collected cars and car gas caps. Many a visitor would find their gas cap missing when they returned home. Always the prankster, he once led his caregivers and friends on a merry goose chase for 4 hours at the Minot State Fair playing hide and seek. James was also a member of Ebenezer Congregational Church.

James was very mechanical and enjoyed taking things apart. His father had to double nut his toys, swing sets and even the picnic table. James loved music and spent countless hours playing his harmonica, strumming his guitar, or just enjoying listening to music. One of his great joys in life was eating good food and he looked forward to his daily Mountain Dew and his trips to McDonalds for a cheeseburger and fries. Almost every Sunday, his father would bring to him his favorite milkshake.

James died on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Svarre Group Home. James will be dearly missed by all whose life he touched. We are now rejoicing for him as we picture him made whole, smiling in Heaven.

James is survived by his parents Harold and Audrey Lorenz, Sidney; a sister, Joette (Edward)  Deg, Sidney; niece, Afton (Chris) Ray-Rossol;  great niece, Rhett Jacen Rossol; and sister-in-law, Gale Bestland Lorenz, Antelope.

James was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Jeffery, Jon Earl, and Jon Earl II; his grandparents, Ray and Mae Wallace, Henry and Louisa Lorenz and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
