Julia Ann (Vorhies) Nielsen

Julia Ann (Vorhies) Nielsen, age 82, of Glendive, passed away on September 16, 2017 in Billings, 13 days before her 83rd birthday, with family by her side.

Per Julia’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Services are pending and will be announced when completed. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Julia was born on September 29, 1934 to Presley and Dorothy (Mortensen) Vorhies in Glendive. She had two brothers, Eddie and Delbert. She attended Pleasant View School and graduated from Dawson County High School. She then attended business college in Seattle, Wash.

Julia married Richard E. Nielsen on May 25, 1955. During their 62 years of marriage they lived in Glendive, and moved to Billings in 1968. Julia worked office jobs at Alsco Linen and Ryan Grocery, but most of her life she enjoyed her accounting jobs at several banks in Glendive and Billings. They retired in 1994 and traveled around in their RV before purchasing a home in Citrus City (Tacna), Ariz. They then became snowbirds traveling back and forth from Arizona to Montana.

Taking care of her family always came first. Some of her interests were reading, flowers, crafts and cooking. She loved to try out new recipes at all the potlucks, but her cheesy carrots were always a request.

Julia Ann was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother Eddie.

She is survived by her husband Richard; brother Delbert (Betty) Vorhies of Glendive; son Eddie (Carol) of Lindsay; son Mark (Shirley), and two grandchildren Kobey and Kimberly (Andrew Riddle), and two great-grandchildren Olivia and Brecken all of Billings; son David (Donna) of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter Debra (Carson) Bales, and two grandchildren Colton and Caitlin of Wasilla, Alaska; and niece Shari (Chuck) Kinsey.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Billings.

Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at: www.silhafuneralhome.com.
