Cowgirls score six runs late to top Lady Devils (slideshow)

Miles City broke open a tight game with the Lady Red Devils by scoring six runs in the final two innings. The Cowgirls were up just 4-3 through five innings but then outscored the Glendive girls 6-1 over the final two innings to post the 10-4 win. This was the conference opener for the Lady Devils. The game was played at BL
Baker Field on the campus of Dawson Community College.
The Cowgirls scored first with a run in the top of the 1st then added two in the 3rd to go up 3-0. Glendive got on the board in the bottom of the 4th with a pair of runs. Haylee Storlie started the rally for the Devils with a double to deep centerfield. Amanda Mittlestadt then followed with a blast over the fence in left-centerfield to pull the home team within one.
Miles City answered with a run in its half of the 5th but the Lady Devils came right back to score one in the bottom of the 5th. Taya Torres reached with a solid single to left. Aspen Gibbs then had a successful sacrifice to get Torres to second. Wyniah Mintz followed with an RBI double to drive Torres in get the Devils back within one at 4-3.
Glendive would get its final run in the 6th. Trailing 7-3 The Devils’ Lexi Pettersen drew a walk then stole second base and third base. Pettersen would score on a fielders’ choice. Miles City responded in the top of the 7th with another three runs.
The Red Devils had seven hits in the ballgame. Miles City had 12 hits. Next on the schedule for DCHS softball is a home contest with the Glasgow Scotties.
