The Dawson County High School cross country teams took first at the Sidney Invitational in Sidney, last Friday.

“Kids ran well on the hilly course. Both teams won, but it was a really small meet,” DCHS head coach Jim Temple said.

Junior Ase Ackerman was first amongst 25 varsity boys with a time of 17:18.6, lowering his average times even further before the Divisional race on Oct. 12 in Glendive.

Senior Tristan Hilgart continues to impress in his first cross country season. He was fifth with a time of 17:52.5, followed closely by recently healthy Travis Kinn, who crossed the line in 18:39.6, good for seventh place.

Junior Ben Stortz rounded out the top 10 with a time of 19:06.6, and sophomore Myles Stinnett finished 14th with a time 19:35.2. Junior Michael Hopfauf was about 30 seconds behind Stinnett in 17th with a time of 20:03.5.

Freshman Louis Harrington and Gabe Mickelson ran the junior varsity race, with Harrington finishing first with a time of 20:43.9 and Mickelson second in 21:20.6.

Junior Emily Kuehn was second amongst 23 varsity girls with a time of 20:02.4. Freshman Taylor Munro was fourth and crossed the line in 21:50.8. Kendra Zander was sixth in 23 minutes flat.

Freshman Kassidi Walker finished in 23:35.5 to take ninth, and Kendra Kaufman was 13th with a time of 25 minutes. DCHS’s Nicole Perkins completed the race in 18th place with a time 27:30.8.

Washington Middle School students also performed well in Sidney. Jacob Parent took second amongst 16 middle school boys with a time 09:10.2. Payden Burman was seventh with a time of 10:38.1, Alex Hopfauf was 11th with a time of 11:43.6 and Jasper Bodily was 14th in 15:30.8.

Ryleigh Mittels was the only WMS Lady Demon to run. She finished seventh out of 20 with a time of 11:48.

After the Devils’ final race before Divisionals in Miles City on Saturday, the Eastern A Classic will be held at the Oakland Athletic Complex in Glendive at noon next Thursday.
