DCHS track performs well at Miles City make-up meet

Miles City hosted a quadrangular track & field meet on Tuesday after the John Polich Invitational was cancelled on Saturday due to inclement weather. The DCHS teams attended along with Miles City, Hardin and Billings Central.

The Red Devil boys had a good showing with six 1st place finishes and a near sweep in the pole vault. The DCHS squad won the 100, 200, 3200, high jump, pole vault and the 400 meter relay. In the pole vault the Red Devils took the top four spots.

The Lady Red Devils had two top finishers.  Teia Knutson won the pole vault after clearing the bar at 8 feet.  Austyn Copp was the winner in the girls’ 800 with her time of 2:31.29.

The DCHS boys also performed very well in the sprints. Colter Bachmeier led four Red Devils that placed in the 100.  Bachmeier won the event with a time of 11.55. Tai Sokoloski was the winner of the 200 with his time of 23.37.

John LeSueur (11.62), Sokoloski (11.80) and Taylor Schwartz (11.99) were second, fourth and fifth respectively behind Bachmeier in the 100. Bachmeier also wound up courth in the 200 at 23.87.

Ashton Jones and the DCHS 400 meter relay team also picked up first place awards on the track. Jones won the 3200 after crossing the line with a time of 10:37.98.  The relay team won with a time of 44.90.

In the field events the Red Devil winners were Dillon Silvernale in the high jump at 5-10 and Taylor Schwartz in the pole vault at 13-06.  Schwartz had three teammates finish 2-3-4 behind him in the pole vault.  Silvernale was 2nd (12-06), Kacen French 3rd (12-0) and Beau Ackerman was 4th (11-01).

Chase Knoll and Ackerman picked up points for Glendive in the three throwing events.  Knoll was fifth in the discus with a throw of 95-08 and sixth in the shot put with a heave of 34-01.  Ackerman threw the javelin 144-06 for a 5th place finish.

The DCHS boys also picked up other points in the high jump and the long jump.  Tanner Schwartz was second behind Silvernale in the high jump. Schwartz also cleared 5-10. Carson Oakland leaped 18-08 in the long jump and finished in second place.

Tristan Hilgert and Tanner Schwartz picked up additional points for the Devils on the track. Hilgert ran the 400 in 55.60 to place fifth. Schwartz earned a second place in the 300 hurdles with his time of 43.28. The Red Devil 1600 meter relay team was fourth at 3:48.88.

Savannah Keiser, Cheyenne Fisher, Teia Knutson and Austyn Kopp were the four Lady Devils that placed in the meet. Keiser was 5th in both the discus (78-02) and the shot put (27-03). Fisher was 5th in the pole vault at 6-06, Knutson won this event.  Copp added a third place finish to her day. In addition to winning the 800 Kopp was 3rd in the 400 at 1:07.09.

Girls’ team scores: Hardin 218, Miles City 102, Billings Central 86, DCHS 20
