Lady Devils close out season with loss

The Lady Red Devils’ season came to an end on Saturday morning in a loss to Sidney at the Eastern A divisional basketball tournament.  The Eagles used a big 2nd quarter to carry themselves to a 52-28 victory. Sidney outscored DCHS 18-6 in the second quarter to take control of the contest.

The Lady Devils fell behind 7-2 in the opening period but battled back to within one at 7-6. Sidney then answered back with the next four points to take an 11-6 advantage into period No. 2. Maria Zimdars scored the six points for DCHS.

Teia Knutson started the second frame with a free throw for the Devils then Zimdars scored inside to cut the Eagles’ lead to two.  Ciara Sinks came back with a deuce for Sidney before Zimdars added another bucket to once again pull the Devils within two at 13-11. The rest of the quarter belonged to the Eagles. Sidney finished out the half on a 16-1 run to take a 29-12 advantage to the locker room.

Daryn Wolff scored the first to buckets of the second half for Sidney. This extended the Eagles’ lead to 21.  Sara Hilbert got the Glendive girls on the board in the second half with a goal and Zimdars followed up with another deuce. Sidney then scored the final 11 points of the third.

The Lady Red Devils continued to fight hard over the final eight minutes of action.  They had their best scoring quarter and outscored the Eagles 12-8 in the fourth. Lexi Pettersen hit a 3-pointer and had five points for Glendive in the final frame.  

Zimdars led all scorers in the game with 16 points.  Hailey Steinbeisser paced the Eagles with 10.
