The hometown Dawson County High School Lady Red Devils earned a big win over the Lady Bulldogs from Hardin Saturday night in the final conference game of the season.

The Lady Devils won the nailbiter in five games, with the final game coming down to a very close 15-13.

Scores against Hardin were 25-22, 18-25, 16-25, 27-25 and 15-13.

The Lady Devils are heading into tournament competition with two big conference wins under their belts — the first to Sidney on Tuesday and second to Hardin on Saturday. DCHS will enter the season in fifth place with a 3-7 conference record.

“Our team chemistry is better than it has been, we are really focusing on serve-receive and communicating more,” Coach Eva Crockett said. “We are trying to stay focused and do point-for-point and game-for-game.”

The No. 5 Lady Devils will face No. 4 Laurel on Thursday at 6 p.m., the opening match of the Eastern A Divisional Tournament in Sidney.

The Lady Devils faced Laurel twice this season, losing both times. The first time they played, DCHS lost in four games, the second went five games.

The Glendive coach is confident her team will compete well Thursday.

“We competed well against Laurel (during regular season play),” Crockett said. “We just need to minimize our mistakes and let them make the mistakes.”
