The Lady Red Devils’ softball went on the road last Friday for conference games with Billings Central and Laurel. These Eastern A teams proved that they are two of the top teams in the conference. The DCHS squad first fell to the Lady Rams 15-6, then were knocked of by the Lady Locomotives 12-2.

The Glendive girls started quickly against Billings Central. The Lady Devils came up with five big runs in the top of the first inning. Wyniah Mintz led off the game with a double. The Devils then loaded the bases after Sara Hilbert drew a walk and Cheyenne Ryan was hit by a pitch. Amanda Mittlestadt then got Glendive on the board with a double to left center that plated the first two runs. Lexi Pettersen followed with a single to drive in two more. Shay Deines then knocked in the fifth run with a single that scored Pettersen.

The Rams bounced right back with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the first. Central scored its four runs on four hits and also had a base on balls. Central grabbed the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to go up by one. The Lady Rams would not trail again.

The final run for Glendive came in the sixth. Pettersen singled and then stole second base. From here she came around to score when freshman Averie Skillestad single up the middle.

The Lady Devils again took a brief lead against Laurel with a single run in the top of the first. Hilbert singled in the first as did Ryan.  This set the table for Pettersen who delivered another single to drive in Hilbert. The Locomotives then answered with five runs in the bottom of the first. They would add one more in the second to go up 6-1.

The DCHS squad pulled within four with their second run in the top of the third. The Lady Devils’ run came off of the bat of Mittlestadt who blasted one over the leftfield fence, her second homerun of the year.

Laurel secured its win with a three-run 4th then finished the game off with three more in the sixth.

The Lady Red Devils hosted Sidney on Tuesday but game information was not yet available. Saturday they will head over to Miles City for more conference action against the Cowgirls.
